Palorva is the titular Daughter of the Shadows, the child of Dracula and his lost lover. Like her father, Palorva is beautiful in much the same way that a hungry wolf or snake is. Her features are striking, her personality elegant and articulate, but there is an undeniable coldness underneath her gaze and her words. Even so, people in her vicinity find that they quickly ignore their vague sense of unease in favour of Palorva’s magnetic charisma.

Where Dracula is brutal, Palorva is cruel. She derives endless pleasure from psychological torture. Stringing lovers along and slowly breaking their hearts with a thousand minor fractures is a fun pastime, but even that is not as delicious as manipulating the economy and watching hopeful entrepreneurs as their dreams gradually turn to dust. However, by far Palorva’s favourite cruelty has to do with clergy. Over the course of years, Palorva twists a religious leader’s practices and principles until they are the embodiments of everything that they once denounced. She then relishes the clergy’s agony as she confronts them with their sins.
